3D Printing

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), refers to processes used to create a three-dimensional object in which layers of material are formed under computer control to create an object. Objects can be of almost any shape or geometry and typically are produced using digital model data from a 3D model or another electronic data source…

CNC Machining

CNC (computer numerically controlled) machining (subtractive rapid prototyping) enables 3-D Technical Services to machine the actual material that will be used in production for the prototype. 3-D Technical Services has multiple machining centers that offer up to 4′ x 8′ capacity. We machine everything from quick Renshape (urethane tooling board) study models to complex machined components for specialized equipment. If the material can be machined, we machine it. We run SurfCAM software to create tool paths…

Consumer Product Comps

3-D Technical Services produces consumer product comps (models) for consumer focus group studies as well as marketing commercials and print. These comps look, feel, and function like the actual products to give reliable testing results. The comps can be anything from a simple bottle shape to a functioning mechanical assembly. We work closely with designers and engineers to provide the most realistic comps. We can successfully color match…

Laser Cutting & Engraving

Laser engraving, which is a subset of laser marking, is the practice of using lasers to engrave an object. Laser marking, on the other hand, is a broader category of methods to leave marks on an object, which also includes color change due to chemical/molecular alteration, charring, foaming, melting, ablation, and more. The technique does not involve the use of inks, nor does it involve tool bits which contact the engraving surface…

Urethane Casting

Urethane Casting is the most economical way to produce functional parts that mimic mechanical properties of injection molded plastic parts. 3-D Technical Services has some clients who use this method for their production parts due to low volume and frequent design changes. We offer a large variety of durometers from 10A (skin soft) through 85D (Formica table top) as well as water clear urethanes…

Vacuum Forming

Vacuum Forming is a method of thermoforming plastic to create a wall thickness part. The plastic sheet is heated to forming temperature, then stretched on to the tooling while vacuum is applied which pulls the plastic tight against the tooling. When the plastic cools it takes the shape of the tool. The part is then trimmed and any secondary machining operations are performed. 3-D Technical Services uses this process to create the housings for our medical training devices and transparent blister packaging prototypes…
